ARCHERY
You stand confidently on the line, the goal: a target... 35 yards away. Banners with coats of arms flutter in the light breeze. It is a wonderfully sunny day. You wait impatiently for the marshal to clear the path and prepare for the shot. The archer next to you gently pull the tendons of their bows in anticipation.
The marshal shouts “Range clear, begin shooting!” You raise your bow, aim, tighten the tendons and muscles and a moment later your arrow shoots at the target.

A scene from Robin Hood? Maybe, but in this case she's from a Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) archery tournament. Archery may be one of the first activities you want to do in the SCA. It is also the only martial art that anyone can practice - children and adults of all ages and levels of fitness. It is also a sport where the same requirements apply to everyone. Hitting the gold gives a great feeling of achievement.

One of the unique aspects of SCA archery is that it's not always just a competition, but mostly a battle for personal best or just for fun. It is mainly a re-enactment of an activity that was common and common in the Middle Ages.
Bogenschießen
Du stehst souverän an der Linie, das Ziel: eine Tafel… 35 yards entfernt. Banner mit Wappen flattern in der leichten Brise. Es ist ein wunderbar sonniger Tag. Der Marshal ruft „Range clear, begin shooting!“ Du hebst deinen Bogen, zielst, spannst Sehne und Muskeln und einen Augenblick später schnellt dein Pfeil ins Ziel.

Eine Szene aus Robin Hood? Vielleicht, aber in diesem Fall ist sie aus einem Bogenschützen-Turnier der Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). Bogenschießen ist vielleicht eine der ersten Tätigkeiten die du in der SCA ausüben möchtest. Es ist zudem die einzige Kampfkunst die wirklich jeder ausüben kann – Kinder und Erwachsene jeden Alters und körperlicher Fitness. Es ist auch ein Sport bei dem für jeden die gleichen Voraussetzungen gelten. Das Gold zu treffen gibt ein tolles Erfolgsgefühl.

Einer der einzigartigen Aspekte des SCA-Bogenschießens ist, dass es nicht immer nur ein Wettbewerb ist, sondern meist ein Kampf um die persönliche Bestleistung oder einfach nur zum Spaß. Hauptsächlich ist es ein Reenactment einer im Mittelalter üblichen und häufigen Tätigkeit.
